The World’s Longest Highway

According to an article in Yahoo, it is believed that Russia may be in the process of constructing the worlds longest highway. The huge logistical project is expected to reach from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The project could connect the UK to the USA, while making its way across the biggest country in the world: Russia. The head of the Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin, disclosed the plan at a meeting of the Russian Academy of Science, according to News.com.au. The Trans-Eurasian belt Development (TEPR) is expected to link the Pacific with the Atlantic, spanning over a length of 20,000km. While making its way across the breadth of Russia, it will incorporate major roads, a new train network, pipelines for oil and gas and the laying of facilities for electricity and water supplies. If the plan comes to fruition, it cost several trillion dollars to construct. It could also however, create 10 to 15 new industries, new cities, new jobs and aid development of Siberia and the Far East. According to Yahoo news Vladimir Fortov, the Head of the Russian Academy of Science, said that, the project was "very ambitious and expensive" and that it would solve many problems in the development of the huge landmass.     l
