Cambodian Heritage Protection

The Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts recently held a seminar on the management of preservation of historic buildings. Cambodia houses an impressive array of architectural heritage sites from the several influential periods of the Kingdom’s history. The role of such historical sites plays a vital role in preserving the culture of Cambodian and also boosting socio-economic development, according to an article in the Phnom Penh Post.

The report goes onto explain that many of the ancient architectural sites are still in good condition, with the majority of these being built during the 1863-1953 Colonial period. The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts met to discuss the management of Colonial buildings with more than 90 Ministers and heads of Ministry Departments present.

This comes at a time where the number of ancient structures being preserved is shrinking according to the Post, as the country develops rapidly. The Ministry is yet to lay out exactly what buildings will be protected.
