New Phnom Penh International Airport compatible with Singapore’s airport
Phnom Penh: The New Phnom Penh International Airport, set to be located on 2,600 hectares of land in Kandal and Takeo provinces, can be compatible with the airport in Singapore, said Civil Aviation Spokesman Chea Aun. It is large enough compared with the airports of Singapore and other ASEAN countries and when complete, airlines can route between them. The New Phnom Penh International Airport can accommodate up to 40 million passengers, while current Cambodia’s facility can host only 10 million passengers, said Chea Oun. As a result of this new airport investment, Cambodia will receive a steady increase in tourist numbers, create more job opportunities and have direct flights with countries in the region and the world, he forecasted. From the New Phnom Penh International Airport, flights of between 15 to 16 hours, whether to the east or the west, would be equal to covering half of the earth and will bring passengers to arrive directly in Cambodia without wasting time landing in other countries. During the first meeting on 28 February, the New Phnom Penh International Airport Project Management Committee assigned HE Mao Havannall, Minister for Civil Aviation Secretariat, to organise an agreement in consultation with relevant institutions and line departments/ministries and to be submitted to royal government to sign with Cambodia Aviation Investment Co., Ltd., to study to identify a safe flight zone.
