Phnom Penh's First modern pedestrian bridge to open before Khmer New Year

Phnom Penh: A new pedestrian bridge at Neang Kong Hing roundabout near the Olympic is planned to open before Khmer New Year, according to Olympia City Project Manager. After announcing the groundbreaking ceremony in 2017, the bridge is expected to complete and open to pedestrians before the upcoming Khmer New Year celebration. Meng Chamroeun, Olympia City Project Manager, said the bridge is equipped with escalators, elevators, a roof to protect from the heat of sun and the water. It is also covered with a glass balustrade that can prevent people from falling to the ground. He said the bridge is large and high enough so that it would not disrupt people who travel below. Moreover, it is built with modern architecture similar to those in the neighboring countries and other developed countries. When opens, the sky walkway will ease traffic as well as boosting the safety of pedestrians and drivers in the area, he added. Costing around US$ 3 million, the bridge is a part of the Olympia City project and being implemented through the cooperation between Phnom Penh Municipality and Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC).
